Wolf Tags on Sale Today in Idaho!

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Wolf Tags Went On Sale Monday. But Will This Hunt Really Take Place? Off, back on again…could be back off.

Hunters already were waiting when Idaho Fish and Game started selling wolf tags at 10 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2009

The first ticket at the Fish and Game headquarters was sold to John Dennis of Kuna. But the very first ticket, Monday morning, was sold to Adrienne Peterson at Jim’s Pawn Shop in Middleton.

A hunter may buy only one tag at a cost of $11.50 for residents and $186 for nonresidents. A tag is good for one wolf, which may be taken in any one of the 12 wolf hunt zones in Idaho.

Fish and Game had sold 1,825 wolf tags in the first hour. By mid-afternoon Monday, about 4,000 tags had been sold.

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission earlier in August set a statewide wolf hunt limit of 220 wolves. When that number, spread over 12 wolf zones, is reached the hunt will end. There is no limit on the total number of tags sold.

Hunters can buy those tags at any Fish and Game office, license vendor, by telephone at 800-554-8685, or online at https://id.outdoorcentral.us/. The process is the same as buying a license or big game tag for other species, including deer, elk, black bear or mountain lion.

The hunter must have a valid 2009 Idaho hunting license to buy a tag. A printed brochure containing the 2009 wolf hunting rules and seasons is available from license vendors. The rules also are available on the Fish and Game Web site at: http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/cms/hunt/wolf/.

Because of potential legal action, however, some hunters may be unable to hunt wolves for which they bought tags in Idaho. A request for an injunction has been filed with a U.S. District Court in Montana. If granted, the injunction would block the wolf hunt in Idaho.

The timing is still unknown.

If the wolf season is blocked before September 1, hunters who have bought a wolf tag would be eligible for a refund. If the season is blocked on or before October 9, hunters who can show in good faith they did not hunt may be eligible for a refund.

The hunter must submit a request for refund by December 31 on a Fish and Game form along with the original wolf tag. Requests received after December 31 would not be eligible for a refund.

This refund process applies to the 2009 wolf hunt season only.

All refunds will be for the amount paid for the tag. Refunds can be in the form of a check or an Idaho Fish and Game gift certificate. Requests must be submitted to: Idaho Department of Fish and Game, Wolf Tag Refund Request; P. O. Box 25; Boise, Idaho 83707.

The refund policy and refund request forms are available from Fish and Game and on the Fish and Game Web site at: http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/cms/hunt/wolf/.

Cody Wade Utah Archery Mule Deer

Your camo patterns are amazing… no other camo fools monster bucks like Kings! I would like to email you photos of my 2009 DIY 194 3/8 non-typical from Utah. Thanks for awesome camo. Cody wade

That was the email I recently received from Cody. Of course I emailed him back to get some pics and find out a little more about the hunt. Here is a little more information from Cody about the hunt. Congratulations Cody on a great archery mule deer. And Thanks for being a great customer.

I was lucky enough to draw a Paunsaugunt Utah archery deer tag this year. I went all out bought all new everything camo, bow, arrows, broad heads, everything I could to even up my odds. I scouted very hard finding this buck along with another that was probably a little bigger. Opening day found me decked out in King’s Camo and sneaking around looking for Mr. Big which I found. But due to rangefinder malfunction I miss judged how far he was and missed. Kings Camo blended me in so good I even got a second shot…. well buck fever had set in an it resulted in another clean miss… The second night of my hunt I ran into my second choice buck and sealed the deal. Couldn’t be happier.
Thanks for the awesome camo!

Send in your successful King’s Camo photos. You will be entered in our King’s Camo Photo Contest for 2009. camocontest@kingscamo.com

Archery Buck

First Archery Pronghorn Antelope

Brad Bentley and his Utah Pronghorn Antelope
Brad Bentley just sent me a great photo of his recent pronghorn antelope hunt. Our King’s Desert Shadow Camo was the trick. If any of you guys are hunting antelope, Desert Shadow was born to hunt antelope!

Here is Brad’s quick rundown of his hunt. Congratulations Brad on a great archery buck.

“It was officially opening day of the 2009 archery season here in Utah. Earlier this year, I was fortunate enough to draw a limited entry Antelope tag. Yesterday I had the opportunity to fill that tag, by harvesting my very first Pronghorn Antelope. I drew for the most coveted antelope unit in the state, located in the beautiful red-rock high desert of the San Rafael Swell!

I was fortunate enough to share this special accomplishment with my dad, who was sitting beside me in the ground blind. After setting up and being in place well before sunrise, unfortunately after several hours with little activity…other than squirming and hopping frogs in the water, both my dad and I were falling victim to a persuasive mid-morning nap, and almost missed our opportunity!

With my dad “sawing logs” and my head bobbing in and out of a sleepy daze…I opened my eyes and out of nowhere found a buck standing at the edge of the water! Although this wasn’t the 80-inch buck that my good friend and I had spotted just days before, I got a little too excited and took a shot without hesitation on this buck at just 30 yards from the ground blind! My shot placement was a little high in the shoulder and it took this buck quite awhile to finally go down, we tracked him for while a second arrow eventually helped make the decision a little easier for him! Regardless of the fact that he’s not the big one I had my heart set on…I’m still happy I was able to fill my first antelope tag, and experience this new aspect of hunting with such good friends and family.

The buck only gross scores 62 inches and is kind of a “dink” especially by trophy standards…however I think taking an antelope with a bow is quite an achievement, regardless of size. I sincerely can’t wait to try this again the next time I ‘m lucky enough to draw…hopefully I’ll have the patience to wait it out a little longer and take that trophy buck of a lifetime. “
